Correspondence with Hailey Lind...

Dear Hailey Lind or Julie and Carolyn - I facilitate a mystery book club in Old Town Maine at the Old Town Public Library and I wanted to let you know we picked Feint of Art for our February selection.  We get together once a month and discuss the various mysteries we've read, eat food and generally have a great time.  We have an amazing group of ten women who've been picking mysteries to read for the last three years.  We try to do a mix of all types from classics to hard boiled.  We are meeting tomorrow to discuss your book but the feedback I've received thus far has been positive.  I actually recommended your book as I have read all of them as well as the Juliet Blackwell paranormal series.  Anyway we would love to hear from you sometime.

Dear Kai,
What a wonderful letter to receive!  Thank you so much for recommending our book to your book club.  I really hope you all enjoyed Feint of Art, and boy do I wish I could be a fly on the wall to hear the discussion J
Feint of Art was our first book, and it was an incredible sister project for Carolyn and me.  We loved writing it, as well as the sequels in the Art Lover’s series.  I now write alone as Juliet Blackwell (which you probably realize since you mentioned you read those as well) but I really miss the kinds of discussions Carolyn and I used to have, figuring out plot points and character development.   Still…there are fewer arguments when you write by yourself!
Finally, I have to tell you I love the idea that Feint of Art is being read in Old Town Maine, a place I’ve never had the chance to visit.  One of the best parts about being an author is having your words read by people you’ve never met…I hope you all enjoy meeting Annie Kincaid and the whole gang!
Please do encourage folks to write with any questions or comments they might have.  And thank you, again, for recommending the book to your group.
All our best,
Juliet (the artist half of Hailey)

Dear Juliet:
Our book club met last night to discuss "Feint of Art" and we had quite a good time.  Most of the members really enjoyed the book.  It sparked a great discussion about art and in fact one of the women had researched Caravaggio and brought in several books with pictures of some of his works.  Some of us had been to San Francisco and we had a lively discussion about that city as well.  Several of us admitted to getting a tad confused over the original idea to replace the Magi.  We all loved the idea that the real painting was in a show featuring fakes though some were appalled that Annie was running off to Chicago after Michael/Colin/X.  My personal opinion is she couldn't resist seeing all those fakes - many probably painted by Georges or maybe even Annie in her younger days.

The room was about evenly split between Frank and Michael.  Our one member who says she doesn't like romance in a story confessed she couldn't wait to find out who Annie ended up.  They were also excited to hear our library has all four books in the series so they could read more.

We all agreed you should remedy not ever having been to Maine by visiting.  Our library I am sure would love to host an author evening.  Maybe you could set your next book in Maine.

We also decided "Feint of Art" would make a great movie and we picked your cast for you. Here's our vote for the three main characters.  Let us know what you think.

Annie - Amy Adams
Michael - Chris Hemsworth or Matthew Goode
Frank - Hugh Jackman

Anyway thanks again for getting back to us and yes I have read your books under Juliet Blackwell and I think my favorite are the home renovation series.  Our library also has all of those and "If Walls Could Talk" is featured in our "Cozy up with a Good Book" section.

Sincerely,

Kai Ksyniak

Thank you so much for the recap of the meeting – I wish I could have been a fly on the wall! Please give everyone a virtual hug from me!
